LTO Overijssel withdraws from nitrogen area consultations

7 April 2022 - Klaas van der Horst - 1 reaction

LTO Overijssel is stopping its cooperation in the area-oriented nitrogen consultation. The board of the organization has unanimously voted in favor of this, says chairman Harold Zoet. The organization lacks perspective in the plans of Minister Christianne van der Wal and sees itself 'overruled' in advance.

Zoet states in the letter to members that a letter will be sent to the Provincial Council of Overijssel later this week to explain the position, but with the current letter, the members have already been informed.

Sweet

Zoet actually summarizes the objections in three points: 1. There are no longer any leads that offer perspective to the agricultural sector, nor to individual farmers and horticulturists. 2. The critical deposition value (which is regarded as unfeasible) is too decisive and does not offer a solution for PAS reporters and other bottlenecks, nor does it offer the sector any revenue models. 3. The minister threatens to intervene if the area-oriented approach does not yield sufficient results, as a result of which agriculture already feels that it has not been taken seriously in advance.
