Nitrogen claim sees solution for PAS detectors

7 April 2022 - Klaas van der Horst - 3 comments

Christianne van de Wal, Minister of Nature and Nitrogen, can kill two birds with one stone if she collects latent nitrogen space and helps PAS detectors. This is stated by the Nitrogen Claim Foundation. Both the environment and farmers can be helped.

The solution is me according to nitrogen claim in the licensed, but not yet realized/built space in permits of agricultural companies. Precise data are not known, but the size is said to be around 20%, says Nitrogen Claim chairman John Spithoven. This percentage will differ per region.

Enough for PAS detectors and more
Van der Wal wants to remove this latent space from the market, but is still investigating how this can be done. The Stikstofclaim Foundation proposes that the minister buy up this latent space for a reasonable fee and then make it available with priority to agricultural PAS reporters. In doing so, the minister is fulfilling an obligation that she has entered into herself. The minister can delete the remaining latent space that is removed from the market, if desired, the Stikstofclaim Foundation reports.

The foundation expects that there is certainly enthusiasm for a purchase arrangement for latent space. This is because owners often also want to get rid of the (financial) risk that they run with the unrealized license space.

During the week with advocates
The plan has already been submitted to interest representatives for the week. According to Spithoven, a number of them agree, others react a bit more reserved. "We are not a representative of interests," says Spithoven. "But our idea certainly seems worth investigating." In his view, the minister can also score with it, because she can remove several problems from her plate at the same time.

So then we have to pay for the stupid mistakes that the government has made in recent years. We have always worked very hard and our successor also wants to keep a company that is viable.
