The new ammonia top 100 that the Minister for Nature and Nitrogen, Christianne van der Wal, sent to the House of Representatives on April 19, is also incorrect, according to the BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB). On April 5, the minister sent a first list to the Chamber, but it turned out to be wrong.
The top 3 of the ammonia list is the same: Rockwool (259.106 kilos), Yara (254.159 kilos) and Chemelot (113.794 kilos). Livestock farms followed on the old list. Other industrial companies were lower on the old list. The ammonia emissions from industrial companies are the same on both lists. Livestock farms that were high on the list were attributed more emissions (the highest: 100.856 kilos) than those that are now high on the list (the highest: 49.525 kilos). In the old top 100, five livestock farms were in the top 10 and in the new two.
BBB has dived into the new list. "Although the companies with extremely high ammonia emissions have disappeared, a large part of the list appears to have higher emissions after adjustment than in the first list," according to the party on its website. "After consultation with the municipalities and consultancies, we cannot draw any other conclusion than that this list also contains serious errors. A comparison of licensed space in Gelderland and the top 100 list, for example, does not yield comparable emissions anywhere. The largest emitter in Druten counts, according to the list provided by the minister, 31.732 kilos of ammonia emissions, while according to the permit system it is only 17.515 kilos."
'Municipalities do not recognize numbers'
It is theoretically possible that this company has now received a new license, given the top 100 of 2019, BBB indicates. "However, every company that we compare in this way has much lower emissions in the systems and practically no new permits have been issued since 2019 (given all the problems surrounding legislation and nitrogen). A call round with municipalities yields the same picture: they don't recognize the numbers, and those companies named in their municipality don't exist with such emissions."
"In addition, out of the first fifty livestock farms, no fewer than seventeen now have higher emissions than in the first list. It is of course not known exactly which companies from the first list match the second list. But the only other explanation is that there is a number of companies have disappeared from the list and have been replaced by companies from exactly the same municipality. If that is the case, then they should also have been on the old list and that is not the case. barn systems and as a result the emissions were too high, it cannot be the case that all kinds of companies now score higher than on the old list," says BBB.
'Too many emissions attributed to livestock farming'
According to the party, the RIVM 'clearly has no idea what they are doing!' "And the minister is blind to these kinds of bodies. In fact, the practical knowledge to estimate that these kinds of lists are not correct is completely lacking. BBB wants openness and the bottom stone above: it seems that there are far too many emissions are attributed to livestock farming!"
In offer letter of the new top 100, Van der Wal wrote (again) that she finds the mistake very regrettable. She emphasizes that the data has only been collected to answer questions from GroenLinks MP Laura Bromet and has not been used in drawing up the minister's policy.
