Flevoland: no area with too high a deposition value

4 July 2022 - Klaas van der Horst

The province of Flevoland does not have to enforce exceedance of the critical deposition value (KDW) in Natura 200 areas. The reason is that nowhere does the background deposition exceed this KDW. The province answers this to a request from the NewMob foundation.

NewMob asked Flevoland to take enforcement action against all (potentially) disruptive activities in Natura 2000 areas. The foundation wants all activities to be treated equally. The province therefore rejects NewMob's enforcement request, the Provincial Executive (GS) reports.

Sensitive area in NOP
NewMob is surprised by GS's response, because on the one hand the province has identified a nitrogen-sensitive area in the Noordoostpolder where farmers may have to leave, while on the other hand it is committed to more ecokar excursions in the Oostvaardersplassen. That is something that the judge said last week is not allowed, because it disrupts nature too much. The objection to the expansion of the number of trips with the ecokar was requested by the Dear Flevoland Foundation. The rides are provided by Staatsbosbeheer. The province had given permission for more trips.

According to chairman Jan Cees Vogelaar, NewMob does not intend to stop at the rejection by the province.
