Boerenbusiness presents the Agribusiness Award for the fourth time this year. The prize for companies with a new service or innovative product with a financial advantage for the farmer. One of last year's nominees is Ella from In Ovo. How have they been in the past year?
Ella is a machine that can sex the eggs on day nine of the incubation process of laying hens. Applying Ella prevents the roosters from having to be euthanized on day one. In the past year, Ovo has mainly been refining the product.
"There are a number of steps in that machine. The sampling process is the process in which a sample is taken from the egg and from there to test whether it is a male or female. That is quite complicated from a technical point of view," says Tiemen Dalhuisen, CFO of In Ovo.
Proud and surprised
Dalhuisen looks back positively on its participation in the Agribusiness Award. "It is a professional process and participating forces you to think carefully about what you are doing and what you are doing. They are actually all free tests that you take, which I think is very valuable. In addition, I respect the expertise of the jury, they were able to comment well on our product. Such a trajectory also allows you to measure yourself against other innovations in the Netherlands, you are all doing well and innovatively."
Dalhuisen is proud of reaching a place in the final. "We had no idea, of course, who would participate. We just know that it is a prestigious prize in the Netherlands. So everyone would like to win. We were pleasantly surprised and proud that we made it to the final."
