The nitrogen mediation between the agricultural organizations and the cabinet led by Johan Remkes has failed. The cabinet has not taken up the outstretched hand. This is explained by the 8 large agricultural organizations after feedback from LTO with the other clubs that were agreed with earlier this week.
On Friday afternoon it seemed for a while that Remkes could find room in the cabinet. He suggested that anyway. Prime Minister Rutte was less positive. As a result, there are no further consultations for the time being. The government must first provide a real helping hand, otherwise there is no opening for a conversation, the organizations indicate.
The serious crisis of confidence that Remkes talked about on Friday afternoon has not diminished. The 'extremely constructive' consultation, which the cabinet and Remkes talked about, was apparently one-sided. LTO chairman Sjaak van der Tak hinted at that afterwards: "It is not enough at the moment."
FDF circles are reacting less mildly to the events of Friday afternoon. The government's response to the consultations is regarded as a provocation. There is talk of 'oil on the fire' and 'the hardest actions ever' are announced.
According to some sources, the government's striking response is partly the result of internal divisions.
Talking about three points
On Friday afternoon it was said that further discussions would be held on three points in particular: the legalization of PAS detectors, also the state of nature and emissions instead of just deposition and extra room for innovations. That's all gone again
Something to take home
The nitrogen moderator acknowledged that the farmers' organizations 'should have something to go home with' if talks were to continue with the cabinet. Nitrogen minister Christianne van der Wal said 'sorry' for the nitrogen card during the meeting, she said afterwards. It was previously indicated that that card will be adjusted.
2030 remains standing
"The cabinet is understandably sticking to 2030", says Remkes about the objective in the nitrogen reduction and nature improvement act. In the coalition agreement - in line with the advice of the Nitrogen Problems Advisory Board chaired by Remkes - it was agreed to bring the target forward from 2035 to 2030.
In addition to LTO, the cabinet also spoke with individual farmers and a number of hybrid agricultural organisations. However, according to Agractie, these together only account for 3% of the sector. Next week, according to plan, there will also be talks with, among others, the nature organisation, the site managers, VNO-NCW and Bouwend Nederland. Whether this will continue is also uncertain.
Van der Plas: 'We are no further ahead'
Caroline van der Plas was also not very positive in the consultation on Friday afternoon. "All in all, we are not one step further, she said. That there should be more room for 'proven; innovations are cool. "The first rocket could not go to the moon either. Did we stop financing then?" She also points out that sticking to 2030 for the nitrogen target is illegal. "That is determined by the House of Representatives and the Senate. Bill still has to pass Chambers! Silly to call this a political agreement." According to Van der Plas, the nitrogen map is 'still not really off the table'. "Down with that monstrosity!"

Simply refer the desired nature in the natura2000 areas to the original nature of 1000 years ago. At that time, these were mostly forests and not emaciated nitrogen-poor heaths. Nitrogen promotes tree growth. You could even argue that the government's low-nitrogen policy goes against European rules and undermines the return of the original nature. You could legally challenge this.
