Boerenbusiness presents the Agribusiness Award for the fourth time this year. The prize for companies with an innovative product or new service with a financial advantage for the farmer. One of last year's nominees is Bayer Crop Science's Serenade. How are things going a year later?
Bayer has not been sitting still last year. Serenade is a biological crop protection product for the control of Rhizoctonia, Streptomyces and Helminthosporium in potatoes. Last year, Bayer rolled out the product even further in, among other things, potato, vegetable, open field and flower bulb cultivation.
Organic products are increasingly accepted, says Sander Uwland, crop advisor at Bayer. Due to the disappearance of chemical crop protection, biological crop protection is becoming increasingly important. Serenade now has a label that covers almost the entire agricultural and horticultural sector.
Contribution to awareness
Bayer entered the Award to see where they stand. "You want to know where you stand and what the jury thinks, whether you are appreciated. How does the jury view the way in which this biological product has been marketed in arable farming. We have received a lot of satisfaction and appreciation with this for the product and the way we marketed it."
Uwland looks back positively on its participation in the Boerenbusiness Agribusiness Award. "It has contributed to the awareness of the product and has generated a lot of publicity. It attracts product supporters and being in the picture more often is of course always positive. The positive attention that emanates from the Award is reflected on the product and towards customers and trade and has certainly contributed to confidence in organic products for arable crops."
"If you have a product that can or should be in the spotlight, or do you really have something new and interesting, then the Award is a fantastic stage." Uwland therefore advises companies to participate. "It is well designed and done with care and attention. It is not an 'award' so to speak; it is really given a lot of attention in the presence of a very expert jury and it is given a lot of publicity."
