Foreman Bart Kemp of Agractie is satisfied and hopeful after the turnaround of CDA leader Wopke Hoekstra in the field of nitrogen. He notes that Hoekstra is the first of the four coalition leaders to let go of the KDW, but expects more to follow.
"The coming weeks will bring clarity about this. A lot is happening behind the scenes," says Kemp. In the meantime, it is important that agriculture continues to adhere to the basic requirements that it struggles with, he says. Agriculture alone will not help agriculture.
This morning (August 19), the AD wrote from Hoekstra: "The process needs to be restarted. 2030 is not sacred to us." should be removed from the law as soon as possible.
Huge pressure from national CDA
Hoekstra's other arrangement did not come about by itself, Kemp knows. "There has been enormous pressure from the CDA nationwide. That was not something that could just be ignored by the party leadership." There is also a heated internal discussion at the VVD and ChristenUnie. The shifting positions in the various parties will put pressure on the cabinet. Whether this survives this move is a question Kemp cannot answer either. He expects that Minister Sigrid Kaag of D66 in particular will have to make a difficult choice.
Call to provinces
In the meantime, Agractie has also called on the provinces to delay the decision-making processes there by three months, in order to better anticipate the changes that can be expected from The Hague.
