Organizations open for second conversation Remkes

30 August 2022 - Linda van Eekeres - 2 comments

Eight agricultural organizations want to talk to Johan Remkes and the cabinet about nitrogen policy tomorrow (Wednesday 31 August), provided a number of items are on the agenda. LTO confirms this. This includes the critical deposition value (KDW), the nitrogen deposition threshold value and the PAS detectors.

The farmers' organizations discussed with each other last night whether they will sit down with Remkes and the cabinet. Previously, the requirement was that the cabinet had to move in areas such as the timeline, the goals and the KDW, and that a solution had to be found for the PAS detectors. According to Agractie leader Bart Kemp, this is going on behind the scenes, especially after the statements by CDA leader Wopke Hoekstra that 2030 is no longer sacred to achieve all nitrogen targets. Kemp found the consultations with the other seven organizations 'good and constructive'. Like the other organizations, he is prepared to speak with the cabinet on Wednesday under the leadership of Remkes. Kemp does indicate that there should be a clearly defined agenda on points put forward by the organizations, in particular the fundamentum under the nitrogen policy is important to him.

Organizations themselves at the consultation table
Remkes' first meeting with the agricultural organizations took place on 5 August. LTO spoke before and afterwards with seven agricultural organizations (Agractie, FDF, DDB, NAV, NMV, NVP and POV). Afterwards, after feedback from LTO, the meeting was labeled a failure. The second conversation with the agricultural organizations must be the last conversation in the Remkes process. LTO has previously indicated that the other organizations must now come to the follow-up meeting themselves. Remkes must now assess whether he and the cabinet wish to enter into talks under these conditions. Then he writes down his findings, even if this conversation does not take place.

Exactly, keep your back straight. Address the measurement errors at KDW in accordance with TNO and do not accept corrections from “rivm doesn't know where it comes from”. I now also miss the border areas, but that is good for a follow-up round if necessary.
