New inflation record in the Netherlands: 17,1 percent

30 September 2022 - Linda van Eekeres

The inflation record of the Netherlands was broken again in September. According to the European Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), inflation was 17,1% this month. In August, consumer product prices rose by 13,7% year-on-year according to the HICP. This reports the CBS.

Inflation is still strongly driven by rising energy and fuel prices. In this category, prices rose 113,8% year-on-year in September (up from 88,4 in August). Food prices rose slightly less rapidly at 10,5%. In August it was 10,8%.

Inflation is calculated in two ways. The HICP is the method by which inflation in the eurozone can be compared. The Dutch consumer price index (CPI) will be published on 6 October.
