The agricultural parties that participated in the nitrogen consultation with the cabinet at the Catshuis in The Hague on Wednesday morning, look back slightly positively, but with the necessary blows. According to the parties, there is not yet confidence, but there is some hope.
Participants in the talks informed that it was once again made clear to Prime Minister Rutte and Ministers Van der Wal and Adema that expropriation, in whatever form, is unacceptable. They also keep insisting, with Johan Remkes, that the KDW should be removed from the law.
Emission/Deposition
At the start of the consultation there was some discussion between the members of the G8/G9 (farmers' organisations) about emissions and deposition. According to Farmers Defense Force, among others, LTO is too much of a pro-emission policy. LTO does not want to explain anything further about this. There is still a difference of opinion about this point of emission versus deposition. On the one hand, livestock farmers have to reduce their emissions, but it would then be undesirable if they have done all that and then find themselves in trouble because of the deposition in nature reserves, says FDF spokeswoman Sieta van Keimpema. There must be a good arrangement for this.
More time
So there were more points of discussion. Such as questions about the expected efforts for agriculture versus those for aviation and construction. However, most farmers' organizations also find some confidence in ministerial proposals to give agriculture extra time, especially by 'temporizing' water and other policies, for example. Even Mark van den Oever was slightly hopeful.
Rutte and also Minister Van der Wal are also criticized about their personal actions, it can be heard. Rutte was questioned about his direction, Van der Wal because of the (non-) functioning of the ministry and her attitude, which is not so much about her words, but about her actions.
On Friday, the cabinet will adopt a position on the Remkes report and the next steps to be taken. It must then become clear whether there is indeed a positive follow-up for agriculture.
