The messages on Twitter, among others, about fake inspectors from the NVWA, who come to inspect dairy farms, are based on a misunderstanding. Dairy farmers may have suspected fake NVWAs, but they were real civil servants.
This is reported by a spokesperson for the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority. In recent days there has been a lot of fuss on various social media about animal activists, who came disguised as an employee of the NVWA to take samples of, among other things, tank milk. It even led to Member of Parliament Caroline van der Plas of BBB asking the Minister of LNV questions about it.
The author of the above message wrote that he had inquired with the NVWA whether inspectors could have been present at his company. This question would have been answered in the negative. Upon inquiry by Boerenbusiness the NVWA reacts differently: "We checked it out. This company was an inspector from the NVWA. We have now informed the entrepreneur involved. We also checked reports from other entrepreneurs. inspectors. We have no indication of 'fake inspectors' walking around."
Whether this completely reassures farmers remains to be seen. The NVWA carries out both announced and unannounced inspections at companies.
