The US agricultural sector sees sales opportunities in the Netherlands

16 January 2023 - Wouter Baan

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) will be visiting the Netherlands in April on a trade mission. The Americans see sales opportunities in our country for dairy, beef and grains, among other things. In addition, Rotterdam is seen as the ideal gateway to the European hinterland.

The trade mission will take place from Monday 17 to Thursday 20 April. The exact content of the program is not yet known. The aim of the mission is to investigate export opportunities for American agricultural products such as beef, grains, dairy and legumes.

The USDA calls the Netherlands a mature market with many professional food importers, traders, processors and distributors. The USDA also finds the port of Rotterdam interesting, because it is a gateway to other markets in the European Union.

It is not the case that American agricultural exports to the Netherlands are still in their infancy. In 2021, the US exported $3,4 billion worth of agricultural goods (including forestry products) to the Netherlands. This makes our country the tenth most important sales market for the US.
