VanDrie wants to take over Gosschalk slaughterhouse

The VanDrie Group and Export Slaughterhouse J. Gosschalk and Zn in Epe are investigating far-reaching cooperation. This should result in the VanDrie Group acquiring a majority interest in Gosschalk. A letter of intent has been signed on this subject.

This agreement between the two family businesses still needs to be further elaborated and requires approval from the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM).

The companies say they see promising opportunities to jointly shape the necessary development at Gosschalk. Strong commitment from both shareholders will contribute to investment capacity and lead to synergy benefits.

Company shut down in 2021
Exportslachterij J. Gosschalk en Zn BV from Epe processes beef and pork and has achieved a turnover of €2022 million in 200. The company came into conflict with the NVWA in 2021 about the way in which animals were treated when entering the slaughter line. The line was even completely shut down for a number of weeks and was only allowed to restart under increased supervision. The company returned to normal in early 2022. This episode has damaged the company. It is not stated to what extent the consequences of this play a role in the step now taken.

Market pork
If the step taken continues, the VanDrie Group will enter the pork market for the first time. VanDrie produces veal and beef, (calf) feed and dairy raw materials. The company has a turnover of €2,75 billion and employs approximately 2.600 people. Both companies look forward to a successful collaboration and integration based on the same family values ​​and a shared vision of the market.
