A large majority in the House of Representatives wants independent advice on the question to what extent nitrogen models, such as Aerius, are suitable for use when granting permits to individual companies.
The reason was a motion of Member of Parliament Pieter Omtzigt, who was involved in the discussion of the National Program Rural Area (NPLG). The motion received the support of seventeen political groups, good for a total of 103 votes. Only three factions voted against, including the only coalition faction of D66. The PVV and the Party for the Animals also voted against.
In the motion, Omtzigt asks for the advice of an independent body, and is thinking of the state attorney. If he gets the assignment, this would be very special, because last week the same state lawyer represented the government (as a defense) in preliminary relief proceedings brought by the Stikstofclaim Foundation (SSC) and a pig farmer from Twente against 'the state' about the current application of the Aerius model.
Support 3 of 4 coalition partners
According to SSC, Aerius is too imprecise to precisely measure the deposition of an individual company on nearby nature reserves. RIVM director Wijnker also said this to the House of Representatives in November 2022.
The cabinet is not obliged to adopt a motion, but a generously supported motion, which is also supported by three of the four government parties, is also not easy to ignore.
