Food inflation
Inflation in the product group food, beverages and tobacco was 13,2% in April. Less than the 15,1% in February and 15% in March, but still strong. Food prices remain higher for longer, because the high energy prices have a lag effect, explained Cor Pierik, head of Agriculture at Statistics Netherlands, recently added Boerenbusiness out in the studio. "If we see energy prices rising, then six months later we will see food prices rising. So you could also conclude that if energy prices fall again, you can also expect a minus in food prices six months later. "
