In the middle of the Veluwe lies the beautiful company of duck farmer Gert van Wikselaar. During the bird flu it was remarkably quiet on the farm, because all thousands of ducks had to be culled. But Gert did not sit still, he used his time to invest in sustainability.
"I started installing solar panels about three years ago," says Gert. He has several stables and therefore a lot of roof space to use. "I would like to participate in sustainability. I think it's nice to do and it gives you a good feeling. But of course it has to yield something. You can't work for nothing."
All roofs are now full, which means that Gert generates more electricity than he uses himself. He started looking for opportunities to earn extra money from his overcapacity in addition to the SDE subsidy.

Energy storage
"It looks like one Energy Storage System the future. It is a smart system that looks at energy prices, and determines whether we are going to store electricity from the roof, or whether we are going to buy cheap electricity, and of course when we are going to sell it."
Trading with energy
In this way, Gert now trades fully automatically with energy on the various energy markets. "And I don't have to do anything about it, I think that's great. I can just my own work and that smart battery has to are do work. I don't have to get a headache from it, that's one very nice solution."
