Added value milk flow A-ware for the German market

30 August 2023 - Klaas van der Horst

Royal A-ware introduces a new milk flow for the German market: Cow Conscious. Suppliers of farm, traditional and meadow milk (plus) who want to join receive €3 per 100 kilos on top of the regular milk price in exchange for higher welfare, feed and sustainability requirements.

The new milk flow is another example of A-ware's entrepreneurship, explains COO Klaas de Jong. "We organize our dairy chain in such a way that all links have lasting benefits: livestock farmers can continue to farm and customers continue to choose us. The latter pay a premium on top of the milk price for the extra efforts of dairy farmers in the field of animal welfare and sustainability."

Customer pays
However, there are differences in the effect between the different milk flows. The details of this will be announced later. Manager of Livestock Affairs Koen Veldman: "The premium is in any case on top of the combination of basic milk price, quality premium, premium quality premium, quantity premium and the premium for A-ware Sustainable."

De Jong does not yet want to say with which companies the agreement has been made. He assures that in any case agreements have been made for the longer term. "Our customers understand that this is logical and reasonable given the effort required." The requested milk will mainly be used for the production of cheese.

Especially own suppliers
A-ware is proud of this new agreement. According to De Jong, it also confirms the correct approach with which the company works: "The customer's question is always our starting point. We think from the consumer's point of view to the cow."

In De Jong's estimation, the need for milk for the new flow can largely be met by its own suppliers, although that is of course the choice of the dairy farmer. The suppliers for whom Koe Conscious may be of interest will be informed about this next week. In any case, no new external recruitment campaign will be set up and 'full is full', says De Jong. However, A-ware will remain open to new applicants.
