Syngenta fourth finalist Agribusiness Award 2023

26 October 2023 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

This year, the jury of the Agribusiness Award has nominated four companies for their innovative product or service, which is good for the farmer's wallet. Initiator Boerenbusiness congratulates the four nominees and introduces them in random order. The fourth and final nomination is for Syngenta Crop Protection with the INTERRA Scan, an innovation that can map the soil very accurately.

Syngenta is a global agtech company that develops solutions to help crops grow healthily. With this, the company wants to help farmers around the world to grow safe and nutritious food and at the same time take care of the earth, the group reports in the registration.

800 data points per hectare
The INTERRA Scan is, according to Syngenta, a service for very accurate mapping of the soil. In combination with soil samples, the scan offers more than 800 data points per hectare and images the soil up to 27 layers. This gives growers insight into the texture and nutrient and carbon content of their soil. With this information, growers can optimize their inputs, such as precision fertilization or variable seeding, and work on their soil health and carbon sequestration. The service is also suitable for dairy farmers who, for example, want to improve their grasslands.

With the scan, an entrepreneur can, in consultation with his or her advisor, use the inputs in such a way that they are only used where necessary. This means that in some cases the entrepreneur will make direct savings, such as with liming. Moreover, according to Syngenta, it contributes to the optimization of cultivation and provides more insight into soil health.

In an explanation, the professional jury says: "A scan that very accurately images the soil up to 27 layers and, together with soil samples, provides no fewer than 800 data points per hectare. And all of that is also very accessible and user-friendly for the farmer. In short, an innovation that you would like to see and in an area that is extremely important to farmers. Congratulations on your nomination!"
