AB Texel takes over Bakker & Schilder

29 January 2024 - Klaas van der Horst

AB Texel will take over all activities from Bakker & Schilder Transport as of March 1, thereby expanding its distribution activities. Family business Bakker & Schilder specializes in flower bulb transport, large-scale distribution, international transport and storage and transhipment and has a strong position in the agricultural sector.

In addition to transport, the company provides related services such as storage and transhipment, order picking and loading and unloading of containers. AB Texel will take over all activities of the North Holland company, including more than ninety employees, 55 trucks and 66 refrigerated, box and sliding tarpaulin trailers. The current board and management team will remain in place. Activities will also be continued at the existing locations in 't Zand, Andijk and Utrecht.

According to AB Texel, the acquisition fits in with the strategy of helping customers realize their ambitions as a logistics partner in agri and food, with economies of scale and network, expertise and data as the key to success.

Dennis Wetenkamp, director of AB Texel, is pleased to be able to join forces. "Through the acquisition, we are further expanding our distribution activities. General cargo transport is a specialty that we have focused on in recent years. By building a dense network, we offer our customers the desired capacity and flexibility. Bakker & Schilder fits very well with us, we have the same down-to-earth, can-do mentality. We warmly welcome our new colleagues."

After the takeover, approximately 2.900 employees will work at AB Texel and the modern fleet includes more than 1.750 trucks and approximately 2.900 trailers. In addition, AB Texel works with approximately 150 permanent charters.
