The carrot market continues to struggle. Offers from parties whose quality is deteriorating rapidly continue to determine the mood. That wouldn't necessarily be bad for pricing as long as there is demand. That's the problem.
The carrot market is a real buyers' market at the moment. Demand from Eastern Europe is not that bad, even though we are largely dependent on it for sales. If little carrot goes away, rinsers also have to buy less. Growers are a bit stuck. Not all carrots in the refrigerator are of such quality that the farmer can afford to keep the door closed until trade becomes friendlier.

Several growers had expected the carrot price to rise towards spring. The season is certainly not over yet, but an increase in the short term is unlikely according to various sources. Although it is not what many growers expected, calculations are still being made. After all, it is still serious money that is being talked about that is certainly not achieved every year. Some growers are wondering whether delivery in April or May is possible for €300 or more per box. Rinsers don't catch on to that. Of course, that does not mean that there is nothing left in the barrel, but with supply from Egypt and the Spanish harvest not far away, buyers are on the cautious side.
Just like the last few weeks, there was not much trading this week. Up to approximately €200 per box is paid for good carrots for immediate delivery. If there is a story behind it, prices will drop quickly. The DCA Quotation for both b- and c-carrots drops this week by €0,50 to €35 to €40 per 100 kilos.
