Milk supply in the United States in April lagged somewhat behind the milk supply of the same month last year. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports a decrease of 0,2% compared to last April, considering the 24 largest dairy states.
This brings the milk supply in April to 8,3 million tons. That is slightly above the level of April 2022, and above the level of the average over the past five years.
Production per cow in the 24 largest dairy states would be 936,21 kilos in April, 3,63 kilos more than last April. However, the dairy cattle population shrank by 55.000 cows, bringing the total to 8,89 million cows. This is 6.000 cows less than in March.
The average American Class 3 milk price for March 2024 is €38,45 per 100 kilos. This has risen slightly, but still below the average of the last twelve months (€38,54), reports the international milk price comparator EDF-ZuivelNL. The calculated advance milk price for the Dutch market for March 2024 is €44,47 per 100 kilos of standard milk, which is well below the American price.
