Polish milk supplies continue to improve last year's figures in May. We previously wrote about the flying start of the Polish dairy season, and that development continues.
Milk supply in the first five months of 2024 was 5,7 million tonnes, according to Eurostat data. This is higher than in recent years. For comparison, milk supply was 5,5 million tonnes in the same period last year, and 2022 million tonnes in the first five months of 5,4.
The five-year average for May is 1,15 million tons. May 2024 is well above that with 1,22 million tons. The milk supply amounted to 1,17 million tons in May last year. In 2022 that was 1,13 million tons.
Figures from the German Zentrale Milchmarkt Berichterstattung (ZMB) also show an increasing Polish milk supply in May, but a decrease in butter and cheese production year on year. In the Netherlands we are also seeing declining butter production, partly as a result of lower milk supplies and relatively high cream prices. The same scenario may occur in Poland.
