The roughage market is changing, especially the prices of straw. But in addition to straw, spent grain and silage maize are also rising in price.
This week people are mainly occupied by straw. A trader says he is currently no longer selling straw due to uncertainty. It is not clear which direction the market is heading. Another insider indicates that no trader wants to supply straw due to the scarcity. The supply is said to be relatively poor at the moment. Straw is also currently being held in France and Denmark. It doesn't come out of the shed, but based on gut feeling, there is supply there, according to the insider.
All in all, the market feels a bit tense and the direction has not yet been determined. That is why it is not easy for insiders to quote prices. The DCA Indication Price will increase to €150 per tonne, new harvest. Some consider this the market's bottom price.
Beer grains are also picking up. There would be a lot of demand for it and there is a waiting period. This, in the face of a tight supply, drives up the price somewhat. The expectation would therefore be that the price will continue to rise rather than fall. The DCA Indicative Price rises to €3,35 per percent dry matter.
meadow hay
According to insiders, trading in meadow hay continues normally. The market is said to be stable, although according to an insider the supply is also somewhat less due to the wet periods in the spring. There has been somewhat less growth. The DCA Indicative Price remains the same at €190 per tonne for the new harvest.
maize
The price of silage maize is increasing slightly. The DCA Indicative Price will be increased to €100 per tonne. Some people are talking about the new harvest with some concern, but according to another insider, that remains to be seen. Another speaks of 'all thin stems'. He expects it will not be easy; there is a chance that it will not be a good harvest, but not all plots are bad.
Grass seed hay
When it comes to grass seed hay, there are suddenly more positive sounds. A trader indicates that he has sold some small loads of red fescue from Denmark. But that's it, because buying more is not possible. Then it is no longer interesting because of the high price. The DCA Indicative Price remains unchanged for now at €185 per tonne for grass seed hay.
silage
Silage grass remains a difficult market at the moment. There is not much trade in it, but good silage remains in demand. The DCA Indicative Price remains the same at €85 per tonne. However, the price is highly dependent on the quality delivered, which makes it difficult for traders to quote one price.
Feed potatoes
The price of feed potatoes also remains the same at €60 per tonne. There now seems to be a little bit of movement in the market, but according to an insider the quality is not good. This mainly concerns rejected potatoes from the chip factories. The rotting process would already be noticeable after two to three days. Other contributors indicate that feed potatoes are not available yet.
