The yields of organic potatoes and onions were not great, partly due to the high disease pressure. Small stocks above the market are generally good for price formation from a grower's perspective. However, trade in these products is tough. Buyers and sellers have difficulty finding each other.
Organic potatoes and onions are simply not in abundance this season. Both growers and processors are well aware of this. A relatively high price level does justice to this situation. The big question is where the upper limit lies. Growers have €1 in mind for both potatoes. Trade and packers think that is still a bridge too far at this stage of the season. The result is that they more or less keep each other in a stranglehold and there is little trade. Growers keep the door closed with the idea that selling at the current level is always possible. There are no guarantees for that, however. The DCA Indicative Price for organic potatoes this week is €75 to €85 per 100 kilos. For onions, the Indicative Price is €80 to €90.
The yields of organic carrots are a lot better compared to potatoes and onions. The harvest is underway and both yield and quality are very decent according to insiders. However, it is also on the tame side in the carrot trade. The DCA Indicative Price has taken a step back compared to last week to €21 to €25 per 100 kilos.
