There is a lot of innovation in the Dutch Agribusiness, as is evident from the registrations for the sixth edition of the Agribusiness Award. No fewer than 35 companies and organisations in agriculture and horticulture registered their product or service for this award this year. Three of them were nominated by the professional jury led by Aalt Dijkhuizen to go through to the finals.
The Agribusiness Award has been in the hands of ABN AMRO since this year, with Boerenbusiness as a media partner. "These are uncertain times for farmers and horticulturists. It is extra important to show examples of innovations or chain collaborations that inspire and offer solutions. I would like to congratulate the nominees and look forward to the in-depth discussions in January," says Pierre Berntsen, director of Agricultural Companies at ABN AMRO.
The nominees
The independent jury led by Aalt Dijkhuizen ultimately nominated three entries for a final round to have a chance at the award. These are in random order:
-Royal Koopmans with Nedertarwe, sustainably grown wheat from the Netherlands. "By choosing a high-yielding, low-disease bread wheat variety, based on our extensive research, the grower can earn a premium compared to feed wheat.
-ISO Horti Innovators with the High Speed Grafter. This fully automatic grafting machine ensures that repetitive manual labor is a thing of the past, but with the highest possible quality consistency. The company combines Vision AI technology and robots, making grafting approximately one third cheaper than manual grafting.
-Cow manager with the Youngstock Monitor. This invention enables monitoring of young cattle using AI that generates farm-specific notifications. This way, diseases and improved welfare of calves and cows are detected at an early stage.
Personal explanation
An important condition of the Agribusiness Award is that the potential candidates make a significant contribution to the business operations and the return of the farmer. In addition, the jury pays attention to the following criteria: The entry must be an ingenious improvement or service, be available and proven in practice and have great potential.
The nominees will have the opportunity to personally explain their submission to the jury during a pitch day. After these presentations, the jury will make a final decision and select the winner. The winner will be announced on 4 February 2025 during Insights Live at the ABN AMRO Open 2025.
