The Dutch manure market is quite heated in the background, but is currently still calm. Livestock farmers, traders and arable farmers are waiting with interest in the coming weeks until the start of the spreading season on 16 February. The prices...
While February is just around the corner, it is still relatively quiet in the manure trade. Livestock farmers remain hesitant with their supply and hope for lower collection rates. Some are eagerly awaiting the start of the spreading season, when spreading can start on their own (high) plots. A stroke of luck is that the weather forecasts currently seem favourable for the coming 14 days. Although in the Netherlands it always remains the question whether the weather will actually follow the forecasts.
Weather market
There are few to no signs that manure prices will drop significantly in the short term, so by euros per week at a time. Especially because there is a lot of stopper manure that has to go on the market, which creates extra compelling supply. However, it is a realistic scenario that prices will drop somewhat, that is the idea among intermediaries. Historically, that is almost always the case. Certainly if the weather, also during the start of the spreading season, remains dry. The manure market is increasingly becoming a so-called weather market.
