DCA launches cattle manure quotation for Leeuwarden

6 February 2025 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 1 reaction

DCA Market Intelligence is expanding its leading range of Dutch manure quotations with the introduction of a weekly price for cattle manure for the Leeuwarden region (Friesland). With this new quotation, DCA Market Intelligence offers even more complete coverage in price transparency for the so-called collection contributions, by now publishing more than twenty quotations for cattle, pig and chicken manure every week. The first official quotation for cattle manure Leeuwarden was published by DCA MI on Thursday 6 February 2025 and amounts to €34,50 per tonne.

DCA, as the only company in the Netherlands, has been recording the so-called collection contributions for manure from cows, pigs and chickens in the various so-called manure surplus areas in the Netherlands since 2007. Due to the phasing out of derogation, the Leeuwarden region is increasingly being considered as such. At the request of various market parties to also make the manure market in the north of the Netherlands more transparent, DCA is therefore starting a weekly collection contribution for Leeuwarden from February. This is in addition to the existing listings for Deurne, Tilburg, Uden, Barneveld, Markelo and Lichtenvoorde.

As a Price Reporting Agency (PRA), DCA Market Intelligence provides the food and agribusiness with independent benchmark prices, market data and market information. Eric de Lijster, manager PRA of DCA Market Intelligence, explains: "With the introduction of the DCA collection contribution for cattle manure for the Leeuwarden region, we are making a new part of the Dutch manure market transparent. This helps parties such as livestock farmers, transporters, intermediaries, processors and exporters who are active on the manure market to make fixed price agreements. In addition, the quotations can serve as a reflection of price agreements. As with our other quotations, we as PRA use an independent and transparent methodology that is in line with the European guidelines."

Manure notation week 6
For week 6, the quotation comes out at €34,50 per tonne. With this, the first quotation continues the stable line of the past weeks when the quotation was already unofficially compiled by DCA Market Intelligence. The general picture on the manure market is currently still stable with a historically high price level. The market is working towards the start of the spreading season on 16 February under fairly favourable weather conditions.

The methodology behind the listings
The input for the manure prices is collected weekly by DCA from a large number of parties in the manure market. These so-called panel members report trade transactions of the current week, based on predefined specifications that have been established by DCA Market Intelligence in collaboration with the industry organization Cumela. These specifications and the methodology used are transparent to everyone, which is an important characteristic for a PRA. It contributes to reliability and independence. You can find the specifications in the overview on the website from DCA Market Intelligence.
