Trading house HZPC expects to sell more than 2024 million tonnes of seed potatoes for the first time in the 25/1 financial year, the company announced.
At the same time as these figures, the cooperative also expects to be able to pay a historically high price to their growers. The net result of the company exceeds €8 million, according to current estimates. The company benefits greatly from a very good demand for their potato varieties.
Changes in management
It is the first year for the new CEO Hans Huistra, who took over from Gerard Backx last year. There are more shifts within the company. In November last year, John Thijssen was already appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board. He is currently CEO of grass seed breeder Barenbrug, with whom HZPC collaborates in the field of research. During the last Supervisory Board meeting, Michael Kester transferred his chairmanship to seed potato grower and Supervisory Board member Cor Biemond.
Better season
In the 2023/24 season, the result was €415 million for Royal HZPC. A decrease of €5 million compared to the previous financial year. At that time, more than 940.000 tons of seed potatoes were traded, which was considerably less due to an extreme growing season. Despite a difficult start, the 2024 growing season turned out better for the company and the grower.
