The tightness on the beef market continues to push up prices. As a result, the P-quality has reached the level of €5 per kilo, according to data from Vee & Logistiek. It is remarkable that the price of this lowest quality of beef that is still suitable for the production of meat parts is now higher than that of the highest listed U-quality in the same period last year.
Due to the scarcity on the cattle market, prices have risen sharply. In addition, the P-quality has broken through the psychological barrier of €5 per kilo. Compared to a year ago, the price for this quality class has risen by no less than 67,8%. At the beginning of the year, cattle in this category were still paid €2,98 per kilo. That is an increase of €2,02 in absolute terms.
It is noteworthy that the price of P-quality cattle is currently higher than that of U-quality in the same period of 2024. For comparison: a year ago the slaughter price of U-quality was €4,78 per kilo. The current P-quality is therefore 4,6% above the level of U-quality at that time.
