Sustainability is only truly sustainable when it does not come at the expense of quality. OCI supports farmers in reducing their emissions on the farm with nitrogen fertilizers that deliver the same yield and quality, but with lower CO2 emissions. Nutramon Novo is a good example of such a fertilizer in which quality, ease of use, spreadability and sustainability come together.
Compared to conventional fertilizers, Nutramon Novo stands out due to the significantly lower CO2 emissions of the production. This is achieved by using biogas instead of fossil natural gas. This biogas is extracted from residual flows and biogenic waste from the agricultural sector. This sustainability step ensures a reduction of CO2 emissions by more than 60%, without compromising the quality of the product.
Achieving more sustainable results
Nutramon Novo is ISCC+ certified, which stands for a transparent and traceable production process based on renewable raw materials. This certification shows the significant gain that Novo fertilizers already achieve at the front end: 30% to 40% of the total emissions of fertilizers are already released during production. The rest of the emissions are generated during use on the land.
With Nutramon Novo, farmers can reduce their impact on the environment and contribute to a more sustainable food system. The fertilizer is produced in the Netherlands and offers the same quality and ease of use as conventional Nutramon fertilizers. The granules are hard, uniform and lump-free, which ensures smooth spreading with a spreading width of more than 50 meters. This wide spreading helps to prevent compaction of the soil as much as possible.
Nutramon Novo: a look inside the grain
Nutramon Novo is a calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) fertilizer that is suitable for all crops. The difference is not only in the orange granules, but especially in the 50/50 ratio of ammonium and nitrate nitrogen that ensures a high nitrogen efficiency. This balanced ratio guarantees an optimal fertilization result, while also reducing nitrogen loss to the soil and air.
What also makes Nutramon Novo special is the addition of magnesium (4%) and calcium oxide (6%). Magnesium plays an important role in improving nutrient uptake and enhancing leaf color, while calcium oxide helps improve soil pH and crop quality. This makes Nutramon Novo not only a more sustainable choice, but also a smart choice for crops that benefit from balanced fertilization.
