The Animal Liberation Front (ALF) visited the home of Gelderland deputy Harald Zoet (BBB) in the night from Wednesday to Thursday and defaced his yard with texts. This was reported by activist site Indymedia.
Op this website Zoet is described as 'wolf hater number 1', who would rather kill wolves than provide solutions, whatever they may be. It is further stated that it is 'time for action'. "The wolf and other animals must be protected from the BBB terror that fatally affects animals. The ALF strikes back hard, where animals are in need. That has been demonstrated by our beautiful history of actions."
Indymedia usually does not comment on the reports and states that it is only a relay. The graffiti is said to have taken place around 4:00 in the morning. The province of Gelderland is aware of the incident and reports that Zoet has since filed a report with the police. Zoet is also indignant: "Although we were prepared as a family, you hope that something like this does not happen. I find it downright rude that people destroy private property and intimidate people to get their way. The perpetrators acted very calculatingly. There are cameras everywhere on the property, but they still found an entrance that was not pointed at by a camera. We are in talks with the police to see how we can further improve security."
The rhetoric surrounding the BBB has been increasing rapidly in recent weeks. Action group MOB recently described the BBB as 'a cancer in politics'.
After years of relative calm, ALF is making itself heard more often. Seven organisations, including Vee & Logistiek Nederland, Producentenorganisatie Varkenshouderij and the Vereniging van de Nederlandse Pluimveeververwerking Industrie (Association of the Dutch Poultry Processing Industry) called on politicians last week to take action against extremist activists. The reason was the fire the weekend before at a Plukon chicken slaughterhouse in Oosterblokker, where the ALF logo was found. Caretaker Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel (VVD) responded when asked Boerenbusiness: "It is absolutely unacceptable that farmers or others are faced with threats and intimidation from activists and extremists who want to make a point. The use of violence and other punishable expressions that endanger others or public order crosses all boundaries."
At the end of January, POV, LTO Nederland and Vee & Logistiek Nederland launched the Agro-intimidation reporting point. Chairman of Vee & Logistiek Nederland, Helma Lodders said last week to Boerenbusiness that around a hundred reports have already been received.
