Summer sales keep manure market tense

4 July 2025 - Jan Willem Veldman

The manure market is still in a stable phase. Prices have remained virtually unchanged over the past period, while uncertainty remains about what will happen once the majority of plots are released. Now that summer has arrived and the first plots of bulbs and winter barley have been harvested, the phase has begun in which manure can be spread on the vacant plots again. The question that still hangs over the market is to what extent manure can still be spread this summer. In all fairness, the area of crops such as bulbs and winter barley is not large enough to currently spread much manure on those plots. This is also evident from this week's DCA collection contributions, which are still continuing relatively unchanged.

Manure market remains hesitant
The supply of manure is slowly starting to pick up again, according to the market. However, there are still very different opinions on the placement of the manure. Traders indicate that there is still sufficient space to supply manure, also within the various NV areas. At the same time, there are still voices that all placement space has been used due to the beautiful spring. For the time being, the trend among traders remains one of waiting. Many manure pits are still empty at various livestock farmers. The spreading of manure on grass continues as usual, which means that what is still available is now being handled more carefully. Some livestock farmers consciously choose to temporarily save manure in order to remove it later this year, despite the fact that there is still sufficient manure available on paper.

DCA collection contributions
In a fairly stable manure market, a wait-and-see attitude currently prevails. The DCA collection contribution for pig manure in the South of the Netherlands amounts to €30,33 this week. In the Central Netherlands, this is €34. The collection contributions for cattle manure for the South of the Netherlands amount to €26,67 this week. In the Central Netherlands, this is €31,33. According to traders, we could continue on this path in the coming period and it is very questionable whether the upcoming grain harvest will revive activity on the manure market.
