FrieslandCampina and Milcobel are allowed to merge

23 October 2025 - Klaas van der Horst

The proposed merger between FrieslandCampina and Milcobel has been approved by the European Commission. The investigation shows that the merger will not significantly impede competition in relevant markets, including the cheese and fresh dairy products trade in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France.

This approval This is the latest requirement in a series of notifications the two companies have filed with competition authorities worldwide. A notification has also been filed with the European Commission under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation, which has since been approved.

With the European Commission's approval, FrieslandCampina and Milcobel can continue preparations for the merger. On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the FrieslandCampina Members' Council and Milcobel's Extraordinary General Meeting will make the final decision on the merger.
