The type of agricultural plastic sheeting you use depends on how you'll use it. If you're going to cover the pit with a layer of soil afterward, choose a thick sheet (200m). If you're only covering the sheeting with silage sheeting, choose 150 or 120m. If your pit is longer than 50m, consider a 300m jumbo roll, which you can seal to the exact length.
Keep everything tight with gravel slurries
You could, of course, use old car tires, but they'll hold water (mosquitoes love that, and you'll get dirty when you need them again). You could also use gravel and sand slings.
