Rumors are circulating in the poultry meat market that supply is quite ample. For the time being, however, this is not reflected in the prices. Slaughter prices for poultry in the Netherlands remain fairly stable. The VCN-ex is still at a level of €1,10 per kilo.

Free market prices also remain unchanged at €1,19 per kilo. This is significantly above the level of the Dutch market. This is because, in recent years, many chickens have been exported to Belgium via the free market. Slaughterhouses in our southern neighbours pay considerably more. As a result, prices in Deinze stand at €1,23 per kilo.

Poland rises again
By now, the ample supply is no longer putting pressure on poultry prices. At the end of last year, there were still sharp declines, but the market has since regained its balance. This stabilization started on the Polish market, which has Northern Europe as its primary sales market. In the first months of the year, a significantly higher poultry supply in the country led to a sharp drop in prices domestically and, later, due to exports, in all major European markets.

For the time being, the Polish market signals that stability remains at the very least. The prices reported by the Polish Ministry of Agriculture have been rising slightly every week since week 5. Insufficient to push prices back up, but it does show that there is no longer any price pressure. The price increased by 3,3%, or 168,51 zloty per ton (4 cents per kilo), to 5040,03 zloty per ton (€1,18 per kilo).
