Agrifirm is acquiring the Danish company Hamlet Protein. Both parties have announced this. The acquisition is expected to be completed within a few weeks.
Hamlet Protein produces specialized, soy-based protein ingredients for young animals and has approximately 115 employees. The company has production sites in Denmark and the United States and a sales office in China.
The company had a turnover of over €100 million in 2024 and prior years, but did not convert this into profit. While Hamlet Protein showed a clear improvement in operational results in 2024, it remains loss-making on the bottom line due to high financing costs, according to the auditor's report.
Fits into strategy
With the acquisition, Agrifirm strengthens its international activities in specialty feed solutions. Within this sector, the company focuses on premixes, concentrates, and ingredients for the animal feed industry, among other things. "This acquisition aligns fully with Agrifirm's new strategy," said CEO Piet Hilarides. Last week, he told Boerenbusiness know that Agrifirm looking again is looking towards acquisitions now that the results are better.
According to both parties, the combination should lead to a broader range of nutritional concepts for young animals. Hamlet Protein will continue to operate under its own name within the group following the completion of the transaction.
