The pressure on slaughter cattle prices is becoming increasingly evident. The drop in beef prices is now also reflected in the Vee & Logistiek quotation. Read more about developments in slaughter cattle prices.
Last week, the drop in beef prices was already reflected in the livestock markets, but by now the impact of the reductions announced by slaughterhouses is also visible. Since the Vee & Logistiek quotation has a delay of approximately two weeks on the day market, the effect of that week's reduction is now visible.
The prices of all cattle at Vee & Logistiek are falling by 10 cents. This brings the price of first-quality beef cows to €4,20 per kilo. O-quality has dropped to €5,93 per kilo, and U-quality decreased to €7,05.
If the livestock market in Woerden is once again an indication of what is to come, not only the reductions of two weeks ago but also those of the following week are having an effect. This time, we are seeing a drop in dairy cattle prices of no less than 13 cents. This is the result of the – atypical for Europe – ample supply of dairy cattle in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, however, beef cattle remain scarce. The war in the Middle East, however, is having a negative effect on export opportunities.
The decline is also starting to continue in Germany. The VEZG now reports a decrease of 5 cents for O-quality. The price has dropped to €5,85 per kilo. The decline in the price of beef cattle is even more substantial. The trend is the opposite of that in the Netherlands. R-quality is now falling by as much as 15 cents to €6,85 per kilo.
