The sugar beets generally look very good. However, the focus on leaf fungi should not be slackened. The high pressure from Cercospora and last year's crop residues can quickly become a source of infection.
We've had a warning early this year. A decision support system (BOS) that Bayer is gaining experience with also shows that early infection probability (see Fig. 1). In addition, we are now (beginning of August) seeing new opportunities for infection. Therefore, check the beet fields carefully. Even if several sprayings have already been carried out. The pressure from Cercospora is particularly high in the coming days!

With 0,35 liters per hectare of Sphere, beet growers have a unique and very strong product against these leaf fungi. In addition, Sphere also has a good effect against rust and mildew and a good side effect against Stemphylium.
In addition to the good effect, Sphere has been demonstrating a yield-increasing effect in the trials for years. The greening effect of the strobilurin in Sphere is responsible for this. The financial return for 2012-2016 gives an average plus of €544, compared to untreated (see graph below). This means that an enormous return can be achieved with one spraying of 0,35 liters per hectare of Sphere.

The combination of trifloxystrobin and cyproconazole in Sphere means that beets are extra well protected. It is important, however, not to allow the interval between sprayings to become too large. This was especially the case last year. So check and spray in time!
Do respect the FRAC rules: do not spray Sphere in more than 50% of the sprayings and do not spray more than 2 times per growing season with a strobilurin.
To prevent shifting of triazoles and thereby a reduced effect, it is very important to alternate them. It makes no sense to alternate means with the same triazole. Sphere is the only beet fungicide that contains cyproconazole and therefore belongs in every scheme. Sphere has no restriction in groundwater protection areas and has a waiting period of 3 weeks.
