Phytophthora: fighting with the right fungicides

16 February 2018

Recently, various publications have shown that there was an increase in the number of new isolates in the Phytophthora isolate research in 2017. These include the strains EU_37_A2 (Dark Green 37) and the EU_36_A2 (Dark Green 36).

It is important for the potato grower to know whether the applied Phytophthora fungicides have sufficient effect on the various isolates. Research from recent years shows that Infinito has a good control effect on all isolates.

This is also confirmed in research from England last year.

  • Location in Barrow (Derbyshire)
  • Breed: Melody
  • Artificial infection with the Pink 6 and Blue 13 isolates. In the end, a natural infection with Dark Green 37 prevailed. This was determined retrospectively by means of isolate determination.
  • A total of 11 sprayings were carried out with flushing schedules.
  • The last 4 sprayings (green arrows) can be seen in the image below.

Conclusion: Infinito also shows perfect control on the phytophthora isolate Dark Green 37 (just like on the other isolates including Pink 6 and Blue 13).Display the percentage of leaf disease between August 17 and September 21.
