Fall work is going well. Plenty of winter grain can be sown at the beginning of October. Early sowing of winter grain gives the wheat and barley a good starting position for the winter and also produces higher yields on average than late sowing.
However, there are 2 dangers that must be taken into account. There is an excellent solution for both:
Wheat on clay soil: Sowing time is Herold time!
Use the existing soil moisture in the seed bed. Therefore spray Herold immediately after sowing. This will benefit the soil effect. Use the full dose: 0,6 liters per hectare. After all, the season is still long. Ensure maximum after-effects through the soil at the highest dosage.
Wheat on lighter soils and winter barley: Herold in early post-emergence (pointe stage).
Spray Herold at the so-called spire stage (emergence of grain) or shortly after. Herold has no contact effect. If applied too late, early emerging weeds may already be too large to be controlled via the soil.
Aphids, yellowing virus transmission
For post-emergence application it is perfectly possible to mix Herold with 0,25 liters per hectare of Decis against present aphids, to combat transmission of the yellowing virus.
Note: Decis is the only pyrethroid with an authorization to combat aphids in the autumn.
