The use of Serenade as a foliar treatment in the cultivation of potatoes yielded good results last season. An improved peel quality has been observed and a decrease in silver scurf, Rhizoctonia and scabies has been observed in the evaluation of 4 field samples.
The analyzed samples come from the Digital Farming project 'Serenade Potato', which was carried out in practice at about 40 potato growers last year. Practice strips have been laid out on various plots, spread over the Netherlands, with a treatment of 5 liters per hectare of Serenade.
Serenade is largely added to the grower's standard soil treatment. Yield and quality samples were taken from this last autumn. These samples have recently been assessed for peel quality and the assessment has always taken place in 4 repetitions. The graphs show the results.
Silver scurf decreases
If we look at the results, we see that on average there is a visible decrease in silver scurf, Rhizoctonia and scabies. Serenade can make an interesting contribution to reducing these common potato diseases. By applying Serenade in the future, the peel quality of the Dutch potatoes can be improved even further.
What is Serenade?
Serenade is based on Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (formerly subtilis) QST 713, which occurs naturally in the soil. Serenade has a broad action against fungi and bacteria. The effect is achieved by the active components, which are formed by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens QST 713 during the production process.
How does Serenade work?
Bacillus amyloliquefaciens QST 713 ensures rapid colonization and thus protection of the roots, stolons and/or tubers. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens is fed by root exudates. The bacteria grows with the root. As long as the roots grow, Serenade will continue to colonize the roots.
Root colonization begins within hours of soil application. Apply Serenade just before or with active root growth. Colonization is independent of soil type or soil moisture conditions. Colonized Bacillus does not wash off the roots.
Serenade ground application offers several advantages:
