Producers, such as Bayer Crop Science, test seeds and crop protection products intensively; mainly for quality purposes. In addition, before they are put on the market, they are also (very) rigorously tested by the independent approval authorities. All this in order to be able to offer growers safe and high-quality products.
The trade in counterfeit and illegal plant protection products (and also seeds) is growing worldwide, also in Europe. According to recent figures, illegal trade currently accounts for just under 14% of the total European market value for plant protection products (based on actual merchandise intercepted). The percentage therefore seems to be only an underestimate of reality.
The growing number of illegal and counterfeit products not only endangers sustainable agriculture and horticulture, but also potentially poses an unacceptable risk to public health, the environment and the economy. Practice has shown that a deliberately misformulated product or the presence of contaminants regularly leads to unacceptable risks.
What can you do?
Everyone can contribute to the fight against illegal practices; as well as users and advisors of plant protection products. Are you curious what you can do? In any case, buy your resources at the regular trade in the Netherlands. For more advice, look at our website.
How can you recognize a genuine Bayer product? The 'CapSeal app' has been developed for this. This makes it possible to obtain information about the authenticity of a product via a QR code, which can be found in the 'capseal' around the cap of a product packaging. Read on to learn more about CapSeal.
Be alert and if in doubt about the authenticity of our products, contact us by e-mail: capseal.nl@bayer.com or telephone: +31 297 280 666.
