The grower's toolbox is under considerable pressure. European legislation and regulations, and their implementation, are making innovation increasingly difficult.
Op Friday 10 May would like Annie Schreijer-Pierik (Member of the European Parliament CDA), Joris Baecke (the portfolio holder for plant health at LTO Nederland), Maritza van Assen (the director at Nefyto), Niels Louwaars (director at Plantum) and Hinse Boonstra (agricultural affairs manager at Bayer), with you talk about how we can keep the grower's toolbox full in Europe. You are cordially invited to the Bayer Forward Farm in Abbenes.
Stocked toolbox
A well-stocked toolbox is necessary for responsible integrated cultivation. Crops with which we can meet the challenges in the field of sustainability. This concerns, for example, the maintenance of a good income for the farmer and the preservation of beautiful, healthy and affordable products for the consumer. However, it is also about economical use of scarce raw materials and land, care for clean water, clean soil and air and the protection of biodiversity.
Innovations in breeding, precision agriculture and crop protection offer wonderful opportunities to strengthen the toolbox and to work on further sustainability. Think of new plant varieties, the precision optimization of cultivation in time, place and quantity and the use of innovative crop protection.
Unfortunately, taking advantage of these opportunities is no longer a matter of course in the European Union. Innovations in breeding and crop protection are failing due to current regulations and political disagreements. As a result, the toolbox is getting emptier. On Friday 10 May we will therefore look for solutions.
