Fusarium shows up in potatoes

17 April 2019

At the moment, plenty of potatoes are being planted. We get the comment from the market (Eastern Netherlands, starch cultivation) that there is currently a lot of Fusarium. It is then advised to perform a treatment with Emesto Silver. Besides the fact that Rhizoctonia is combated, Emesto Silver also gives good control of Fusarium.

Due to the high temperatures of the past growing season and during harvesting, Fusarium to develop well. Now that it is time to plant the potatoes, the contamination is only revealed. It clearly requires more work to read a lot carefully and to have it go to the country clean. Also, various actions do not prevent tubers from being slightly damaged and thus also susceptible to an infection from Fusarium.

A good start is half the battle
Emesto Silver, strong on Rhizoctonia, silver scurf and Fusarium, can ensure that the lots containing Fusarium will not become further contaminated. By treating the seed potatoes with Emesto Silver you ensure a good start, especially because both Fusarium and Rhizoctonia are combated. Ensure proper distribution of the product with the right equipment, for example a Mafex roller conveyor or a Pieperdoes. Always dry well, preferably by force.

To get the season off to a good start, the seed potatoes are treated with Emesto Silver.

Advice:

  • 0,2 liter of Emesto Silver per ton of potatoes.
  • Supplemented with 1 liter of liquid or a maximum of 2 liters per ton of potatoes.
  • Application from autumn until just before planting.
  • Ensure a good distribution around, application by means of Mafex equipment with roller conveyor, Pieperdoes.
  • After application, ensure rapid drying of the potatoes (forced ventilation is preferred).

In an earlier post we showed the results of a study on the effect of Emesto Silver against Fusarium, conducted by HLB. Click here to review this message again.
