What about the Environmental Quality Regulation?

5 October 2017

The Environmental Quality Regulation (ROK) is open from 1 September to 31 October 2017. This arrangement means that compensation can be obtained when intensive livestock farming is discontinued. Priority is given to companies with a high odor burden on the environment.

The aim of the ROK is to contribute to the quality of the spatial environment and the structure of the sector and to improve support in rural areas.

Business situation must be tested against the requirements of the scheme

Opening and requirements
Various documents must be sent with the application, so that the company situation can be tested against the requirements of the scheme. In order to be eligible for the ROK, a number of conditions must be met.

The applications are ranked per region and assessed according to the tender system. The ranking per application will be based on foreground load with regard to odor, on the nearest odor-sensitive object as well as the number of odor-sensitive objects in the vicinity of the location, within a radius of 1.000 meters.

Companies with a high load and/or many odor-sensitive objects in the immediate vicinity will qualify for the compensation with priority. The decision on the application will be made no later than January 31, 2018.

Obligations
If a company participates in this scheme, it is mandatory to completely terminate intensive livestock farming at the location in question. The termination, compensation and requirements thereto are laid down in an agreement. The environmental permission of the intensive livestock sector must be completely and irrevocably withdrawn by 1 January 2019 at the latest.
