Weather extremes: make choices in the measures

Last year, many farmers suffered damage due to the extreme drought. Broad weather insurance is a possible investment to partially cover this damage in the future, but this is not yet a popular option among agricultural entrepreneurs.

The cabinet has decided to compensate farmers from 2020 by exempting broad weather insurance from the insurance tax. This year, therefore, take a critical look at possible precautions and investments.

Optimal protection
For optimal protection of the plot (and therefore crops and harvest), the ball is also in the hands of the farmers and arable farmers themselves, says Bert Knollema. Knollema is a consultant at Accon avm. "The soil is your capital. We had good years in the peat-colonial areas. The price of potatoes rose to a good level, which offers financial scope to invest. However, many entrepreneurs have mostly invested the latter in machines and too little in the ground."
