Subsidy Young farmers: interesting for you?

23 December 2019

Until 7 February 2020, the POP3 subsidy for Young Farmers is open again. With this scheme, young farmers can receive subsidies for investment projects. Discover whether this subsidy is interesting for you and what the conditions are.

What is the Young Farmers subsidy?
With the Young Farmers subsidy, the government encourages and supports young farmers up to the age of 40. Any business with a young farmer can qualify. A young farmer can only make use of this scheme once. The allowance is 30% of the eligible costs. More about the conditions.

Tips for your subsidy application
Are you planning to make use of the Young Farmers subsidy? A few tips:

  • Tip 1: Do not invest because you may receive a subsidy. First determine for yourself which investment suits your current situation, strategy and vision for the future.
  • Tip 2: Then see if your intended investment falls under a category in the list. Isn't this the case? Investigate whether you can deviate from your investment plan, so that you do qualify.
  • Tip 3: Weigh the extra costs against the subsidy amount. How does this investment affect your liquidity? You will only receive the subsidy after the entire investment has been made. That process can take months.
  • Tip 4: Also look at alternative investments. Sometimes investing in something new with a subsidy is more expensive than a second-hand solution.

The current POP3 scheme will end in 2020. It is not yet clear whether we will receive such a scheme after this and what the conditions will be. Perhaps this is the last time that young farmers can receive subsidies in this way.
