Maize can achieve enormous growth in a few months. This stands or falls with the availability of sufficient nutrients. Under the current fertilization standards, the challenge to secure sufficient supplies is growing.
We have already made great strides through more efficient fertilization and row fertilization, but more is needed to safeguard the crop yield. LG has done a lot of research in recent years into mechanisms to make nutrients present in the soil available for the maize plant.
More hair roots and absorption
This season we are introducing the solution, in the form of the biostimulating seed coating Starcover TSSV2. Under the influence of a growth enhancer (cyamopsis psoralioides) a very dense and refined network of hair roots is created and thus a much larger soil volume.
Rhizosphere bacteria (bacillus amyloliquefaciens) in the coating then multiply on the hair roots and form a symbiosis. This releases substances that, among other things, dissolve soil phosphate, after which it can be absorbed by the plant. This leads to a 5% higher DM yield per hectare.
Unique coating
Of course, biostimulants are not new, but the application via a seed coating is. LG has managed to apply all ingredients in exactly the right dosage to the seed using an ingenious process. This is much more effective and cheaper than full-field application via liquid fertilizer and substrates before sowing.
The benefits of STARCOVER TSSV2
In recent years, intensive research has been carried out in test and practical plots into the added value of Starcover TSSV2. The coated maize produced demonstrably higher yields on all fronts, which can increase even further under stressful growing conditions.
