'Growing protein-rich concentrates yourself'

1 July 2020

More and more livestock farmers, often in collaboration with arable farmers, are gaining experience in growing protein-rich concentrates. The acreage of field beans is therefore on the rise. Cultivation specialists and growers are happy to share their knowledge and experiences about this crop.

By sharing knowledge and experiences, the yield of home-grown concentrates increases. With yields of 6 to more than 8 tons per hectare and good feeding experiences, it is clear that field beans are perfect for this.

Limagrain is working on new varieties in a large European breeding program summer and winter field beans with a higher yield potential and stronger disease resistances. In the meantime, advisors and growers are getting better at handling cultivation and sales opportunities are increasing. Locally grown protein will play an important role in animal feed now that soy imports are being phased out. The demand for locally grown vegetable protein is also growing in human food.
